Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)

What is SIP? The meaning of the SIP acronym is Session Initiation Protocol. SIP is a signaling protocol that allows the Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) by sending a command to the softphone or VoIP phone with the SIP account credentials allowing the “initiation” of the VoIP phone call “session” on the phone device. SIP is the protocol used to deploy a VoIP call on a particular device. It is used to connect local telephone systems like virtual PBX’s, softphones and mobile apps to the public telephone network to connect users without a traditional telephone line.
